Keeping Your Idle Dice Save on a School Chromebook

Idle Dice stores its save in the browser's local storage for this site. On your own laptop that is fine: close the tab, come back a day later, and the game pays out up to eight hours of offline gains. On a school Chromebook it is riskier — some districts clear site data at sign-out, and a different device is a different save. Here is how to protect a run.

Export the save as text

Open the Settings tab (the gear icon, top left) and click Export. A panel appears with the save as a long block of text and a Copy button. Paste it into a Google Doc, an email to yourself, or a note — anywhere you can reach from another machine. To restore, open Settings on the other device, click Import, paste the text and press Load. The game reloads with your dice, cards and roulette level intact.

Export after every big milestone: the first prestige, a full deck, a new golden card. The text is a few kilobytes, so keeping several copies costs nothing.

Cloud save does not work here

The Cloud Save and Cloud Load buttons in the original game talked to the developer's own server, which has since gone offline. On idledice.org those buttons do nothing. Export and Import are the only backup, and they are enough.

Offline gains

When you return, the game shows how long you were away (capped at 8 hours) and what you earned. The offline rate is your average points per second at the moment you left, so roll a few combos and buy the cheap upgrades before you close the tab. A run that has just ascended a die earns almost nothing offline until that die is levelled back up.

Settings that matter on a slow laptop

• Use WebGL — on by default. If the dice animate in steps, switch it off and reload; the canvas renderer is lighter on an integrated GPU.
• Roulette Animation Duration — shorten it once you have the auto-spin upgrade, so spins do not queue up.
• Engineering notation / Shorten magnitude — past a few billion the numbers are easier to compare as 1.2e15 than as 1,200,000,000,000,000.
• Enable confirmation — keep it on. It is the only thing between you and an accidental prestige.

One last habit: the game keeps running only while the tab is open and the browser is awake. A Chromebook lid closed at the end of a lesson counts as offline time, not idle time.
